Esau is so desperate for food that Jacob talks Esau out of his birthright since Esau replies, "What good is my birthright if I die today from starvation." Note: It appears Esau was a great hunter but a bit of a drama queen. I don't know precisely how the whole birthright and blessing. Jacob, whose name means "a supplanter," was born with his hand grasping Esau's heel (that's called a tag-team!).
Jacob traded his bowl of stew for his brother Esau's birthright. He became very wealthy and eventually restored his relationship with his brother. At Peniel, God gave Jacob the name Israel, which means "prince with God." During the time of famine, Jacob went to live in Egypt.

Genesis 32:30-32 tells us that Jacob camps at a place he calls Peniel, also called Penuel. In chapter 33 Jacob "looked up and saw Esau coming with his 400 men." After the brotherly reunion Esau heads back towards Seir in the south, whilst Jacob and his family go on to Succoth.
