Weirdly, instead of using a 3 Series and calling up Alpina to do some mods, BMW decided to use the M2 as a base for this tribute, named the 333i Homage (notable not only because it's uncreative, but because the M2 is not a 3 Series, it's a 2 Series). Key elements of the BMW ALPINA brand are its unique balance of maximum performance and superior ride comfort, combined with hallmark driving characteristics. BMW Alpina looks to take a leaf out of the Mercedes-Maybach book, with BMW's new subbrand devoted to luxury devotees. From January 2026, Alpina will operate under BMW's umbrella as a distinct marque, defined by bespoke luxury, effortless performance and a design language that subtly nods to its heritage.
Part of that identity has always been visual as much as mechanical, from classic Alpina Blue and Alpina Green. In 2022, BMW announced that it had come to an agreement to fully acquire Alpina, the German tuning house long associated with producing exquisitely modified BMWs focused on grand touring comfort and power. At the time, BMW and Alpina had an agreement to continue collaborating as they had in the past until the end of 2025, with full rights to the name transferring at the end of that year.
