The expansion comes as the company enters a multi. AESC Group is investing $810 million in Florence County, South Carolina to build a state-of-the-art 30GWh gigafactory. AESC Group's plant development will supply next generation battery technology to power the next generation electric vehicle models produced at the BMW Group's Spartanburg plant. AESC's first facility located in Florence is still on schedule to open in 2026 and will employ 1,620 workers.
It's also expected to make a big impact in South Carolina as it will produce parts for the BMW plant in Spartanburg. The second facility that has been canceled was set to produce parts for a BMW plant in Mexico. The AESC Florence site supports the Company's multi-year partnership with BMW Group, announced in October 2022.
Under the agreement, AESC will supply technology-leading battery cells for next generation electric vehicle models produced at BMW's Spartanburg plant.
