Having a similar problem, modern medicine cabinets are u-g-l-y! I found one at Pottery Barn that I don't hate. Another option would be to DIY or have someone build you the recessed shelves out of wood and then hang a mirror on piano hinges. DIY Medicine Cabinet.

I'm assuming these LEDs aren't replaceable. Flush mount medicine cabinet or recessed? Haven't mounted the side mirrors yet for the flush mount because it's looking like recessed would look much better. I'm guessing the only thing stopping ANYONE from recess mounting is the extra work involved.
