This morning I want to tell you about a blind man named Bartimaeus. His name means "Son of Timaeus" and he used to beg for money outside the city of Jericho. His story is recorded in chapter 10 of Mark's gospel.

Recognizing Jesus: Even though he couldn't see, Bartimaeus heard about Jesus and recognized Him as the "Son of David," meaning the Savior. That's a huge deal-it shows Bartimaeus had faith, even though others didn't. Bartimaeus had heard of Jesus and about how he had healed many who were blind.

He began to call out to Jesus. Others in the crowd tried to get Bartimaeus to be quiet, but he would not be silent. Jesus heard the voice of Bartimaeus calling out to him and he stopped and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" "Teacher, I want to see!" said.

The lesson is found in Matthew 9:27-41, John 9:1-11 and Matthew 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52 and Luke 18:35-43 and discusses three different times Jesus healed the blind. After studying extensively about Bartimaeus and the different ways each writer describes the event, this is a good resource for clarification. This free Bible lesson is based on Mark 10:46-52 when Jesus first began to heal the sick.
