So, I had completed the expedition, and while waiting for (and contributing to!) the community optional milestones, I decided to get a pirate dreadnought to decide whether or not I wanted to farm one for my freighter on my main save. Anyway, long story short, I got one, and I happened to have enough nanites to buy my two preferred colors (the main thing I wanted to check was how the coloration. Here is an example of setting my pirate freighter colors.
For this example, I chose a different color for each of the four color settings. The second photo shows where each of the colors are applied. Beacon 5.74.
There are many colors to apply to your Freighter in No Man's Sky, and you can combine them to create beautiful color schemes. There is a primary, secondary, and accent color for each Freighter, so there are a lot of options for unique customization. To change your Freighter's color, head to the bridge and activate the Upgrade Control Station.
Just as with a regular Freighter, you can change the default lights or their color. So the pirate Freighter will always have those red lights on the bridge. so I just claimed a pirate freighter from the attack the dreadnought event.
i painted it up and everything was fine until for some reason the hanger part changed colors. it was a solid color before and after i took it. and even after i painted the ship it stayed the same until i re summoned it and then it had a pale green pattern on it.

Just got a great S class pirate freighter but it's pink and yellow in certain spots and I can't change the color, do we know if this is this a bug or do I have a cupcake pirate freighter forever now? On console if you want a specific colour freighter, take note of the space station colour in that system, most freighters spawn with some colour attributed to that, some dont. After you have saved in a nearby SS, and enter a pirate freighter battle, reload your last save and warp to the system with the SS colour you like, see what you get.
While I love the existing colors of this freighter, I thought I'd change it up a bit since all of my ships are white. But Changing the colors in the customize menu doesn't do anything! Changing the "primary color" is the only thing that has an effect, which is changing the blue trim and not the actual primary color. The other two categories don't do anything at all; the ship is stuck black.
