Hi folks, OK has anyone figured out how to "VACUUM" the oil out of a BMW Motorcycle Final Drive (Pic attached)? There has to be a way of extracting the old oil without having to dismantle virtually everything on the rear end and turn downwards to drain. Have figured out that using two.

I change my final drive fluid with every oil change and let it drain overnight. Also give the rear rotor a spin to get as much out as possible. The freshness of the gear oil won't affect a final drive failure but it imparts piece of mind. Plus, it does allow you to see if there are shavings in the oil which will point to future problems.

Hello all. I have a 1998 K1200RS with 50,000 miles and I'm trying to decide what gear oil to put in the transmission and final drive. A youtube video recommended Castrol MTX SAE 75W-140 but I can't find that for sale anywhere. My local BMW bike service department recommended 75W-90 but didn't.

The original k1200r and k1200s were designed with no proper drain plug for the drive oil.Indeed it was deemed the original factory drive oil was a lifetime job.It was changed slightly with the 1300 when bmw made it easier to change the final drive oil.My point I guess is its not a huge maintenance issue.I changed mine as a bearing/seal failed and the 180ml of whatever spilled on the back tyre.

Probably this is a pretty common question But I couldn't find a definitive thread (or didn't look hard enough) Can I use Fully Synthetic Hypoid 75W-90 oil on my gearbox? What about the final drive? What oil? same 80/90, or is it 80/140? Thanks!
