I am a fairly new owner of a 1987 4Runner (22RE) and seem to be averaging approximately 22 mpg on a mixture of city and highway driving. Are these f.

I have a 1982 22r with 161,000 miles. It came from a bad home and I am trying to straighten everything on it. I have two issues that I can not quite get. This thread will be for the fuel consumption. I have given the pickup a tune-up and not much happened. Rough idle, terrible mileage with stock sized tires, super rich nasty exhaust. So new alternator, new carb, and now better response, faster.

My Son has a 84 22r, 33"X12 Tires. He is getting about 120 miles to a full tank? Is this pretty average for a 22r with 33s? What is the timing set at on a 22r?

92 22re 33x9.5s 4.88s, odo reads 550kms to a 65L tank (city) but i think the odo is a bit on the conservative side still. i believe that calculates somewhere around 22 MPG (US) o2 sensor is stock - truck has just under 170,000kms total.

Gas mileage sucks, just as bad after the rebuild as before, like 14 - 15 in town. 1) Auto tranny low on fluid? Just 1/2 quart low will drop power and gas mileage significantly 2) Auxillary Accelerator Pump Diaphragm on carburetor ruptured? Hobo carb rebuilders overlook it. A $25 part at the Toyota dealer. Can be replaced without removing carb.
