St. Matthias Church Landmark. Founded in the 13th century, and officially known as the buda castle church of our lady, it was used by the turks as a mosque and was later almost completely rebuilt in the baroque period. One of the city’s most famous landmarks.

Today's mathias church is the result of a major renovation between 1895 and 1903, by star architect of the age frigyes schulek. The church holds a significant position in hungarian history because it hosted coronations and royal ceremonies and national celebrations that formed the nation’s identity. It’s one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, renowned for its intricate architecture, colorful tiles, and rich historical significance.
