October 18, 2024 -Rather than make her Basking Box this exact size, we choose to overhang our DIY Turtle Basking Area by approximately 3″ on either side. The idea was to give her a little extra room to move around and therefore give her new Basking Platform a little more longevity.
November 6, 2025 -Make sure the fence extends at least 12” into the ground to reduce the likelihood that your turtle will dig its way to freedom.Add a large, flat pieces of stone (flagstone works great) as a basking surface, and at least one ramp to make it ...

July 6, 2011 -Add a light-weight 12x12" slate tile to absorb heat and solidify the floor(seeing how the egg-crate is a bunch of holes), and, wahlah, an effective basking platform. The biggest issue I had was lights... It's not quite sturdy enough to support clamp lamps or the like on its own.

January 11, 2012 -My new RES is really, really big though (I added a pic) and sinks everything so far. I thinkabove the tankis going to be the best bet for us. Plus I'd kind of like to come another turtle...maybe a yellow bellied slider...so she has a buddy and above tank would save me tons of room.
