May 7, 2012 -My opinion is first, if you use a wall as one side of a home made macaw cage, you can expect the macaw to redecorate for you . . . and not in a good way. Second, I don't know what materials you anticipate for the other 3 sides, floor & ceiling (and if you don't cover the floor, expect it to be redecorated, too), but if you are anticipating putting holes in the sides for ventilation, I assume you are thinking of some sort of wood (that a macaw will consider a chew toy).
December 2, 2021 -You can create a safe, roomy macaw breeding box in less than an hour with a few simple materials and tools you probably have around the house. Macaw nesting boxes are larger than many other birdhouses, but the components and building methods are similar for each. Make sure to add ventilation.
Answer (1 of 2): Not really. The front “door” should ventilate most houses. Keep in mind, the more holes the more chances of predators getting IN. Small snakes can slither thru holes and snakes eat baby birds. I make birdhouses for chickadees and wrens and making the joints tight enough ...
