Bmw R1300gs Battery Problems

My 1300GSA with the OEM lithium battery has since day one always been at 9 volts in the morning upon first start up. If I turn the bike on and wait a minute or two the voltage finally climbs to 12.5v and the bike will start, but never on the first button push. I had it at the dealer today for.

(240CCA) The underlying problem your looking for is just the BMW battery. I wrote the following in the context of the earlier bikes but most of it is still applicable to the R1300GS. Note however that the R1300GS likely has a lithium battery (unless one got the available "cold weather" AGM) and that battery has an extra two leads permitting the battery's onboard electronics to communicate with the bike.

On my previous R1250GS, I could easily get the bike braked still by using 1 finger on the front brake. With the new 1300, I need at least three or four. So far using my older BMW charger (the one for the GEL batteries - replaced the powerless with an SAE connector) has been doing a great job of keeping my battery between 40% and 70% SOC.

Battery voltage on bike info screen ranges between 13.0v and 13.2v. Bike is in an attached garage.
