Why does my Farrow and Ball paint smell? It's all thanks to VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), which come from the materials used to make paint and emit that "freshly painted" odor. While you can reduce the chance of this outcome by choosing a paint formula with low VOCs, fumes are often still detectable. The remaining paints in our range are classed as Minimal or Low VOC, but in many cases go far beyond the requirement for inclusion in those categories.
VOCs are the culprits behind the strong smell of some oil and solvent based paints, a result of pollutants being released into the atmosphere as the paint dries. It's worth noting that a good range of interior paints now have low or minimal VOCs (try Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Earthborn).Essentially, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are chemicals.
