Ben Carson, American politician and neurosurgeon who performed the first successful separation of conjoined twins who were attached at the back of the head. He later became involved in politics and served as U.S. secretary of HUD (2017-21) in the administration of President Donald Trump.

In 2008, Carson was bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. [17] In 2010, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
