Hyundai Veracruz Gas Cap Release

Hi I went to put gas in my 09 Vera Cruz. When I press the button the door will not open. I had this issue before and it was the plastic piece that attached to the gas cap stopping it.

I used the manual release to get it open. Took the plastic piece off and closed the door. Still it will not.
