Bathroom Vanity Top No Overhang

A standard bathroom cabinet overhang is about 1 to 1 1/2-inches. This slight overhang is attractive and helps protect the cabinets below the counters from spills. However, some homeowners desire a larger or smaller overhang due to the benefits each can offer.

How much overhang should there be on a vanity top? If the top is on a free standing vanity (no walls on either side) the top should be 2" LONGER (B) than the vanity to allow for 1" overhang on each side. If the top is a banjo style top (dotted line), the deck (measurement (C) - the part of the top covering the vanity) should be 1" LONGER than the vanity.

Our vanity cabinet is 21" deep and we have just realized the pure white cultured marble top is also 21" leaving no overhang to protect the top of the doors on the cabinet. With young kids, and this small vanity (only 34" wide), I think we need some overhang. The top does not have a ba.
