The e46 is glorious but it's getting old. You will soon have to deal with old car problems - weather gaskets, suspension bushings, worn out interior, rust, etc All that on top of relatively high maintenance drivetrain. The choice between M4 and M2 is easy - M4 more practical and comfortable, M2 more fun.

BMWCar (English mag for Bimmer fans) has a recent issue covering the E46 M3, E92 M3 and the new M4. Main point - they agree the M4 is an improvement all around on the previous model. But there was one line that I think spoke very highly of the E92 in the article: Similarly, the E92's character and ability are still intoxicating even seven years on.
