July 20, 2018 -If there is any chance you'll have more cattle in the future, make it larger. You could always put a large trap before the pen starts. Slowly feed you pen from the larger trap.

An excellent free resource. I don't have a picture that does justice to the before, but suffice it to say a lot of twine was involved. Now we have several sorting pens, a loading alley, and a covered head gate.

He set2 good locust fence posts about 4 inches apart at 8 ft intervalsto make the size pen he wanted. June 8, 2012 -IMHO I would not go cheap on working pens......I would build them well where I would never have to replace anything or fix anything from something running them over or pushing them over.....cheap is never good when it comes to cattle and especially where you are going to work them at ...
This is how i recently re-built mine : i bought used 10-12 diameter power poles and set them every 6' and set 4 treated posts between them , i then put 16' wire cattle panel's up and then put up treated rough cut 1 x 6 boards (top , middle , bottom) . I am concerned about cattle flow in alley to bud box being too long.
Pushing cattle around a turn then into bud box, I am not sure if this is pushing cattle too much ... In this design, a skilled handler can work the flight zone and take advantage of the natural behavior of cattle to circle around them. The round crowd pen is worked from the ground at the pivot point of the crowd gate.
The fences on the outer perimater are completely solid to block distractions.
