Welcome to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), where innovation meets compassionate care. We're thrilled to introduce our newest faculty members, who bring a wealth of expertise and fresh perspectives to our academic medical center.

UMMC's commitment to excellence in patient care, research, and education is strengthened by the addition of these distinguished professionals. Let's delve into the backgrounds and contributions of our new faculty, organized by their respective departments.

Department of Medicine
The Department of Medicine welcomes several outstanding physicians who will enhance our patient care and teaching missions.

Dr. Amina Patel, a board-certified internist, joins us from Harvard Medical School. Her expertise in preventive medicine and health disparities will significantly impact our research and community outreach initiatives.
Preventive Medicine

Dr. Patel's primary focus will be on preventive medicine, promoting wellness, and preventing disease through evidence-based strategies. She plans to initiate a community-based intervention study targeting health disparities in Baltimore.
Her work aligns perfectly with UMMC's mission to improve the health of our community, and we're excited to see the impact of her research in the coming years.
Health Disparities Research

Dr. Patel's secondary focus is on health disparities research. She aims to identify and address the social and structural determinants of health that disproportionately affect marginalized communities.
By collaborating with local community organizations and UMMC's Center for Health Equity, Dr. Patel will work towards eliminating health disparities and ensuring equitable care for all.
Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery is privileged to welcome two exceptional surgeons who will bolster our surgical services and advance our academic pursuits.
Dr. Raj Patel, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He joins us from the Cleveland Clinic, bringing his expertise in minimally invasive techniques and cutting-edge research.

Sports Medicine & Arthroscopic Surgery
Dr. Patel's clinical focus will be on the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and degenerative joint conditions. He will provide state-of-the-art care to our athletes and active patients, utilizing minimally invasive techniques to promote rapid recovery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Patel will collaborate with our research division to advance the field of sports medicine, with a particular focus on biologic treatments for cartilage injuries.
Medical Education
Dr. Patel is also committed to medical education and will play an active role in teaching our residents and medical students. He plans to develop innovative educational tools and curricula to enhance their learning experience.
By combining his clinical expertise with a passion for teaching, Dr. Patel will significantly contribute to the Department of Surgery's mission to provide exceptional care and train the next generation of surgeons.
As we welcome these remarkable individuals to UMMC, we look forward to the innovative research, exceptional patient care, and inspiring teaching they will bring to our academic medical center.
