Broan Nutone Bathroom Fan Won't Turn On

I have a weird situation. I have a bathroom exhaust fan in my master that is acting strangely. It is controlled by a light switch. Turns on just fine and runs as expected. When I flip the light switch off, you can hear the fan power off. Within about a minute or two, the fan comes back on, even with the switch in the off position.

The fan motor is starting to go out and needs to be replaced. I know most models you can replace just the fan motor, but the cost of the fan motor is about the same as to replace the whole unit.
