Cedar Shavings For Bearded Dragons

There are several important features we need to provide for bearded dragons we are keeping as pets to ensure they stay healthy.DO NOT use cedar shavings, gravel, crushed corn cob, cat litter, wood shavings, or potting soil that contains vermiculite, pesticides, fertilizer, or wetting agents.

Metabolic bone disease, stuck shed, lost limbs and stunted growth are just a few of the most common issues I see in bearded dragons.

Bearded Dragons.Cedar chips and pine shavings can pose potential health risks to pets, such as respiratory problems and changes in liver enzymes. Cedar is best avoided due to the compounds it emits, but kiln-dried pine may be safer because it releases fewer volatile compounds.

Loose substrates like sand (especially calcium sand), wood shavings (cedar and pine), walnut shells, and reptile carpet with loops are generally considered bad bedding choices for bearded dragons.

Why a Proper Bearded Dragon Tank Is Non-Negotiable. Bearded dragons are active, intelligent reptiles with complex environmental demands. A properly set-up tank isnt just a habitat its their entire world. Subpar enclosures lead to stress, illness, and even shortened lifespans.

Parasites: Bearded dragons can carry many different types of parasites, including pinworms, coccidia, spirochetes, and protozoans. It is common for bearded dragons to have a small level of parasites, this is normal for their gut flora.
