Microcement Bathroom Floor Reddit

We have a leak somewhere in our bathroom, as made apparent from our downstairs neighbour (we are in a block of flats). We figure it is an opportunity to redo the whole floor with 'microcement'. We've been given two quotes of the same price: one is cheaper labour, the other is cheaper materials, specifically the microcement.

I am doing the bathroom at my own home and have been seeing on instagram and TikTok people talking about using "micro cement" in place of tile. I think it looks gorgeous and has zero grout lines. Dying to hear an update! I'm looking to do a shower and all flooring.

Wanting to have a go at it for my bathroom as a tester, I'm a plumber by trade, looks like a good product for budget bathroom renos, repairs etc, looks to be water proof and go on over tiles. Only issue is im having a hard time sourcing it in Australia. But.

I have found Ardex feather finish. Which sounds the same. Although the micro cement is tinable.

I did almost my entire bathroom with Tadelakt and it has the same outward appearance and was pretty easy to install. Still too new to comment on durability though. What kind of sealer is needed for microcement and does it require some kind of scratch coat and base coat like Tadelakt does? Reply reply Own.

The only problem we've had is with some water sitting under a porcelain soap dish, which then stained the microcement. The supplier said the sealer is designed to prevent water from soaking in for about a day, so as the water had soaked into the porcelain dish it then was wet permanently underneath. Viewed a house which had microcement floors upstairs and downstairs.

It looked attractive in photos and from a distance, but was disappointing in person. The floors had some movement as you might expect for wooden floorboards, but it seemed strange when the floor surface is hard. Plus a lot of the joints at the wall looked messy.

We're looking at lower budget ideas to improve our bathroom at the moment. It was previously a wet room so has a floor which curves at the edges to meet the walls, which are tiled from around 4 inches off the floor to the ceiling. We could of course try to take the tiles off and redo the walls but I think that would be both messy and expensive option and have come across microcement which for.

I have very natural stone tiles arriving for the floor (tumbled edges) and I've been trying to match these up with wall tiles for the shower area. I want my bathroom to be minimalist and calm looking (freestanding bath, reclaimed wood sink unit), and this microcement seems a good idea. Has anyone else gone for this?
