On June 23, 1992, BMW Group announced it would develop its first full manufacturing facility outside of Germany in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The first BMW came off the line on September 8, 1994, and the plant has assembled over 6.8 million cars since that day. This marked BMW's second hosted OpExChange event, the first having focused on their Body Shop and Lean Six Sigma practices.
