E34 Bmw Designer

The BMW E34 is the third generation of the BMW 5 Series, which was produced from 2 November 1987, until 1996. Initially launched as a saloon in January 1988, the E34 also saw a "Touring" station wagon (estate) body style added in September 1992, a first for the 5 Series. Renowned Italian automotive designer Ercole Spada who also penned the BMW 5 Series E34 died on August 3, 2025.

The lines, penned by Ercole Spada under the guidance of BMW head of design Claus Luthe, represent an important transition period in BMW's design language from past to future, and in my ways, I think it's safe to say the E34 is quintessentially BMW at heart: it's a GT sedan body with both simplicity and elegance at its core. In 1995 BMW launched the E39 5 Series. The design, by Jogi Nagashima, was a noticeably fuller and more rounded shape than the lithe E38 7 Series, but it was undoubtedly handsome and very well received.

It was a further evolution of its E34 predecessor. Next to follow was the 1997 E46 3 Series. The Italian designer answerable for the 7 Sequence E32 and 5 Sequence E34 handed away on August 3, however the influence he had on automobile design won't ever be forgotten.

His portfolio extends far past these two Bavarian sedans, encompassing a few of the most lovely vehicles of the previous century. He was the chief designer over in Munich from 1976 to 1983 and, amongst other things, he was involved in putting together the E32 7 Series and the E34 5 Series. Inside, the E34 was a safe haven of solace and quality.

BMW's careful scrupulousness was clear in the ergonomically planned cockpit and the utilization of premium materials. The design was driver-centered, with natural controls and a format that made long excursions a joy. The BMW M development engineer and racing driver Jörg Weidinger is the owner of a very special vehicle: Only 20 of the BMW "20 Jahre BMW Motorsport" M5 E34 were built.
