Although the company still exists for legal purposes, the company is operated as part of Toyota Motor North America. Production of Toyota vehicles began at the Kariya Assembly Plant when Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.
was established, and the following year at the Koromo Plant (now the Honsha Plant) when it commenced operations in 1938. In 1959, production began at the Motomachi Plant in Japan and overseas in Brazil. Since then, as motorization advanced in Japan and overseas markets grew, production plants in Japan.
