I hope you are right. To replace 100000 engines and protect customers against a POTENTIAL quality issue probably cost Toyota well over $1 billion (100000 engines at $10k each) based on what engine replacements cost at the OEM I worked for. That should give you a warm feeling.

Toyota Tundra engine failure? If you aren't aware, the 3.4-liter V6 engine used in 2022 and 2024 Toyota Tundra, certain Lexus LX. November 06, 2025 PLANO, Texas (Nov. 6, 2025) - Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain model year 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, 2022-2024 Lexus LX, and 2024 Lexus GX vehicles in North America.

Approximately 127,000 Toyota- and Lexus-branded vehicles (conventional gas models only) are involved in this recall in the U.S. A second Toyota Tundra engine failure recall was launched and thousands of failing engines pushed the automaker to expand the recall. Certainly Toyota "tested" this engine that is causing "problems" and (I assume) that it met or exceeded the design specs.

But, perhaps, as with the situation that caused Ford to redesign their engine, Toyota has run into an unforeseen issue that only started to show up during "real world" testing on engines that had been driven a fair amount of. Toyota is recalling basically all 2022-23 Tundras and Lexus LX due to a well known problem with the V6 turbo engines. Hundreds of people have reported the issue of engines failing and seizing while driving.

The engines have to be replaced, and as Toyota is only supplying dealers with short blocks, the rebuild takes weeks. Yep plenty of documented cases of the 24's Toyota tundra engines blowing up. They just didn't recall the 24s yet because they'd have nothing to sell.
