The guides are all now two pages, one for digital applications (such as vectors, painting in Photoshop, 3D modeling, etc) and the other for print applications (customs, merch, T-shirts, et cetera). I'd highly recommend going away from color altogether if you want something different, that way you avoid confusion with existing color schemes altogether. Perhaps graphical effects on the item's name and inventory sprite, although I'd be concerned about these being more distracting than anything.
