I would like some insight into the ownership of an x5 diesel thru and beyond the warranty. The horror stories abound concerning the expense of owning a BMW that's out of warranty. 2014+ X5 diesel reliability I'm interested in a third gen (F15) X5 with I believe the N57 3.0L I6 diesel and ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. It'll be used for long roadtrips often cruising at 80-100mph for long distances. It'll also be somewhat used as a daily driver/haul dogs and large objects/bad weather etc.

I'm a diesel fan for many years and I owned many diesel car: VW Golf D, VW Jetta TD, VW Passat TDi, MB ML320, MB GLK 250, BMW X5 35D. Average fuel consumption is 8.2L/100km (28.7 mpg), 70% stop and go in the traffic.
