So I'm getting ready to build my 96 4runner. I don't want to go full width so I am putting a Waggy D44 in the front (this is already decided). My question is on the rear.

The removable third members are awesome and make it easier to service/change the gears. If you decide to weld a truss to the axle you don't need to worry about a cast centersection like you would on the Dana 44. Birfield joints in the Toyota are a lot better than U.

the dana 44 and the toyota 8" have 30 splines and have pretty much the same diameter, a 30 spline dana 60 also has the same axle shaft diameter. (I have one of those). I wanted to do a little write up on the wagoneer dana 44 that many guys like myself have/are planning on swapping into their rigs based on the last 8 months of my experience to hopefully lead you in the right direction.

To begin my trucks a 2001 Toyota Tacoma, 3.4 double cab, passenger drop Dana 44, ruf leaf springs on 37x 12.5. 4.10 gears. Which axle is stronger/more reliable for medium offroad/99% daily driver use? I feel like Dana 44's are more easy to come by these days.

My questions are; if I got a dana 44 would it be stronger than a toyota solid front axle; would it be easy to find 4:10 gearing, and would it be heavier. Hi guys i'm new on this forum, it have a Toyota Pick up with 7" lift, rear teraflex revolver shackles, LTB 35 x 12.5 R15, and a 22re with k&n air filter, headers and msd ignition and so on, The question is i'm going to make it SAS, and i'm wondering to use a Wagg Dana 44 or earlier toyota 8". OK after years of weeling on suzuki axles and upgrades I am looking hard a swap to Dana 44's or Toy axles.

I currently run a 1.6 esteme motor with 4:1 case and 5.12 Sidwinder/Newfeild axles on 35's and am sick of fixing broken axles every time I push on the skinny peddle.:mad3: I have done alot. Plenty of HP 44's to compare to an 80 front axle (new JK rubicon axle and tons of ford straight axle trucks). I was not necessarily comparing a lp d44 to hp toy.
