Easy Thanksgiving Cake Pops: A Sweet Addition to Your Feast
Thanksgiving is a time for bringing family and friends together, and what better way to celebrate than with a delightful treat that's as easy to make as it is to enjoy? Enter the Thanksgiving cake pop, a fun and festive twist on the classic cake ball that's sure to be a hit at your gathering. In this article, we'll guide you through a simple recipe that'll have you whipping up these sweet delights in no time.
Gather Your Ingredients
Before you start, make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. Here's what you'll need:
- 1 box of your favorite cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
- 1 can of frosting
- 1 package of candy melts or white chocolate chips
- Sprinkles, edible markers, or other decorations (optional)
- Lollipop sticks
- Baking sheet
- Cooling rack
Bake and Prepare the Cake
First, preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Bake the cake as directed, then let it cool completely. Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl. You should have about 6 cups of crumbled cake.

Mix in the Frosting
Add half of the can of frosting to the crumbled cake and mix until well combined. You can use your hands for this step, as it's the easiest way to ensure everything is evenly mixed. The mixture should be moist enough to hold together when squeezed. If it's too crumbly, add more frosting, one tablespoon at a time.
Form the Cake Balls
Using your hands, roll the mixture into balls, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet as you go. Once you've used up all the mixture, put the baking sheet in the fridge for about 30 minutes to help the cake balls firm up.
Melt the Candy Coating
While the cake balls are chilling, melt your candy melts or white chocolate chips in a double boiler or the microwave, stirring until smooth. If using the microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval.

Dip the Cake Pops
Remove the cake balls from the fridge. Insert a lollipop stick about halfway into each cake ball. Dip the tip of the stick into the melted candy coating, then dip the cake ball into the coating, making sure it's fully covered. Allow any excess coating to drip off, then place the cake pop on a cooling rack set over a baking sheet to catch any drips.
Decorate and Enjoy
While the coating is still wet, add any decorations you like. You can use sprinkles, edible markers to draw designs, or even add small candies or candy eyes. Once the coating has set, your Thanksgiving cake pops are ready to serve. Enjoy!
Store any leftover cake pops in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Happy Thanksgiving, and happy baking!
