The frame of the first unit a GP35 slide under the counter weight nearly missing a coast guard cutter passing under the bridge. It was a two unit freight train both GP35s were reduced to about 12 feet in diameter. Both the engineer and at the time the fireman were killed. Took several hours to cut the crew out. Train was reportedly traveling at 35 MPH. It was said it was a communication error  by two way radio at the bridge control DB1 tower. It still not really known to what really happened to this day. Many questions still remain like why was this train traveling at that speed when it clearly should had a stop signal and a few warning signals before that. | Facebook
