Urbanspoon was a restaurant information and recommendation service founded in 2006 by former Jobster employees that offered its services in North America and parts of English. spon: the [proper] [way to say] " [spoon]"person 1: spon person 2: no, spoon person 1: no, spon person 1: you're very dum it's spon. Urbanspoon (by Zomato) for iPhone is the #1 FREE app dedicated to helping you find the best food and dining experiences at over a million restaurants.

Featured in the New York Times, PC Magazine, Mashable, and the Sydney Morning Herald. Urbanspoon is used by millions of App Store users every week to find nearby restaurants with honest restaurant ratings and reviews by consumers and food. That was the message on Zomato's Facebook page today, announcing it had shut down Urbanspoon after acquiring the Seattle-based restaurant reviews site for roughly $60 million earlier this year.

Now, UrbanSpoon is available as an app on iPhone, and I have to complement the team on a very cleverly designed, fun, and ultimately very usefull application. The signature page of the app is a slot machine type interface, where you shake the iPhone and the app picks a restaurant randomly.

We've been getting tons of feedback since we switched Urbanspoon to Zomato, and some of the things have really got us thinking. We took a step back to take a good look at our product, and found there were some fundamental issues that needed to be addressed. The Zomato app, we noticed, had become complicated and unintuitive for our users over time.

So we decided to go back to the drawing.
