One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that there are a few distinct color coat variations. Fox Red Labradors are a rare-colored version of the Labrador Retriever. As with the Silver and Charcoal Labs, they are not currently recognized by the AKC based on the Fox Red color.

Despite this, they can be registered as purebred Yellow Labrador Retrievers, as the darker. A Fox Red Lab is not a separate breed but simply a color variation of the yellow spectrum of Labrador Retrievers. Their coats are darker than your typical yellow Labrador, with red highlights throughout.

More often than not, yellow Labs can range in color from fox-red to light cream with a few variations on their backs, ears, and underbelly. The fox red color is a shade variation of the yellow color.
