I'm looking at this house that has a lot going for it, but doesn't have an en suite bathroom. Do you think we could relocate the closets in the primary and put an en suite backing up to the bath without ruining the size of the primary bedroom? The en suite is awesome for privacy so you can just walk out of the bathroom bare and get dressed in your bedroom.

However all our kids prefer to use our nicer shower over all other bathrooms in the house. I'm genuinely going to miss my en-suite when I move to shared bathrooms in next year's accom. There's something comforting and reliable about knowing exactly what goes on in my own bathroom, plus it being directly attached to my room is super convenient.

En-suite would be used to refer to a bathroom attached directly to any bedroom, and also applicable to hospitals and hotels. If the bathroom is attached to the largest ("master") bedroom of a house, it would usually be called a master bath. We're planning to gut our bathrooms soon and I kind of want to go back to this original floorplan to give my son's bedroom 3 feet extra of space, have a MUCH smaller primary en suite with a large walk-in closet, but is it better to have a larger bathroom or larger closet? New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. The en-suite is the only thing I miss about our pokey 2 bed flat. We have a toilet downstairs in our new house but it's kind of outside (utility room on the back of the garage, connected by a corridor with a PVC roof) so it's freezing in the winter.

The build takes us to 4bed and the idea was an en-suite on the one bedroom. I'm now thinking to separate the toilet to its own space and have the larger bathroom for a bath and a large shower. It's always possible, the question is what you'd have to give up.

First, do you need 4 bedrooms? Take half of bedroom 4 to make an en-suite for bedroom 2 and you'd still have a space big enough for storage or maybe a small home office. Alternatively, can you build an extension to gain a bit of downstairs space and add your en-suite upstairs? I've been to view this end-of-terrace and I'm considering putting an offer in.

The thing holding me back is the bathroom situation, as I'll be getting a lodger in and it wouldn't be ideal having to access through the back bedroom. Any insights as to whether it would be feasible to add in an en-suite using the cupboard behind the stairs? Right I've gone and checked the paint.

It's B&Q's brand "GoodHome" Bathroom paint and the colour is called Kilkenny (Softsheen) It supposedly moisture resistant and scrubbable which should help in a shower room.
