I've used a teak shower bench for 10 years but, like many things, BIFL it comes down to maintenance. All real teak needs to be maintained. Once or twice a year I scrub clean with a soft brush and recondition with teak oil.

I know movable teak shower benches are a thing, but I've been thinking about installing a piece of teak wood as a permanent benchtop in my shower. Is there anything I need to worry about as pertaining to how the wood will interact with the tile itself or the redboard behind the tile? I just added a new shower on my main floor, and the layout just didn't work for a permanent bench, so I got a teak shower bench that isn't the full width of the shower.

It looks nice and can be moved into the shower spray for anyone who can't stand in the shower. I'm looking for a shower bench/chair, but all the one's with high weight capacities are very medical-looking -- blue, white, and chrome. I'm really wanting a teak bench, or something else that can blend in and actually look nice in the bathroom, but they all seem to have a weight capacity of 250 lbs.
