How Long Did The Russian Probe Last On Venus

Venus is a hellish world where even the toughest spacecraft can barely survive. A Russian probe lasted just 127 minutes on its scorching surface — long enough to send back haunting photos of flat, overcooked rock formations. With winds whipping at 200 mph and a sky glowing a strange lemon-yellow, Venus is both violent and eerily still. Temperatures are hot enough to melt metal, its clouds are filled with corrosive acid, and the air is so dense it could crush a submarine. Explore the brutal beauty of Earth's twisted twin — a planet where survival isn’t just unlikely, it’s almost impossible.

Russian Venus Probe Reentry

Venera 13 was a probe in the Soviet Venera program for the exploration of Venus. Venera 13 and 14 were identical spacecraft built to take advantage of the 1981 Venus launch opportunity and launched 5 days apart, Venera 13 on 30 October 1981 and Venera 14 on 4 November 1981.

Russian Venus Probe Crash

The surface of Venus, taken by Russia

On September 9, 1978, the Soviet Union's probe Venera 11 launched toward Venus. After four months of travel across the inner solar system, Venera 11 touched down on the Venusian surface on Christmas Day.

Venera 16 (Russian: Венера-16 meaning Venus 16) was a spacecraft sent to Venus by the Soviet Union. This unmanned orbiter was to map the surface of Venus using high resolution imaging systems. The spacecraft was identical to Venera 15 and based on modifications to the earlier Venera space probes. Venera 16 was launched on June 7, 1983 at 02:32:00 UTC and reached Venus' orbit on October 11, 1983.

Russia is all set to begin efforts toward Venera-D or Venera-17, a renewed Venus landing mission. Expected to launch around 2036, Venera-D would include multiple vehicles and elements like a lander, a balloon probe, and an orbiter. Read more - link in bio
