A Corner shelf is a shelf in the corner of the shower obviously. Usually made of the same tile as the shower walls, the shelf and tile blend seamlessly together. Drill holes into the shelf and into the wall.

Insert Chromed/Stainless/Brushed "dowels" into the wall and shelf using epoxy. Select the material that will match your shower hardware. The idea is to "float" shelf - leaving 1/2" or more, space between the shelf and the wall.

I'm flexible on the colour and type of shelves, as long as they're corner and basket-like. It's hard to sift through fakes that are just chromed steel, stainless steel advertised as aluminium, or brass ones that are actually gold-coloured coated steel. Can someone recommend some decent ones that are metal, won't rust, and aren't expensive?

The shower corner shelf is a practical way to tackle your storage needs. Shower shelving has come a long way. A custom recessed shower niche isn't the right solution for everyone and neither is hanging everything from suction cups or the shower head.

Finally, if you are interested in built. The gentleman was correct about mortaring the shelf in as the wall is tiled. I would abandon the idea of the shelf in your hand and go with something else.

Only used 1.5 tiles cut at a 45, we marked the height for each and they notched the existing wall to install. Came out great and very secure. Corner shelves are the most popular and reliable because they use two sides of a corner to support the load and they're out of the way of the showering person.

A longer shelf would definitely need some sort of bracket to support the free end. Given you have white tiles anyway, I'd go with a cheap and cheerful commercial ceramic corner one.
