The HP2 Enduro is a motorcycle manufactured by BMW Motorrad from 2005 to 2008. [2][3] It is a "High Performance" (HP) dirt bike based on the engine and electronics from the R1200GS adventure-touring model. [1].
The HP2 Enduro was fitted with a 1170 cc air/oil-cooled flat-twin (Boxer) engine, sourced directly from the R1200GS but tuned for additional performance. It delivered 105 bhp and 85 lb ft of torque. In BMW's own description of the bike they note that it was developed as a modern version of the first adventure bike - the BMW R80G/S of 1980.
The R1200GS HP2 is a limited production dual sport bike. It has conventional upside-down forks, weighs almost 55 pounds less than the R1200 GS, and comes with Karoo DOT knobbies. With the growing popularity of high-performance adventure and dual-sport motorcycles like the KTM 690 Enduro R and Husqvarna Norden 901, a modern HP2 Enduro could capture the attention of riders.
Technically, the HP2 Enduro is based on the R 1200 GS. On that basis, it is uncompromisingly trimmed to offroad racing: lighter, more agile, and sportier. For the development into a thoroughbred off-road sports bike, a great deal of weight had to be lost, making the HP2 Enduro a mere 196.5 kilos when unladen and fully fuelled.
The HP2 sport features a narrower fuel tank than the preceding R1200S as well as a self-supporting carbon fiber tail section. As a result the HP2 weighs 392 pounds, or 27 pounds less than the R1200S. Suspension is by BMW's Telelever front fork and Paralever rear swingarm, with bespoke Ohlïns coilover shock assemblies front and rear.
In 2005 BMW introduced the 1200 HP2 Enduro, which while technically based on the contemporary GS model, it was, in reality, a very different and more serious beast. BMW's own R1200GS is better on the road, as is KTM's 950/990 Adventure - and they're much cheaper, more practical and, in most cases, as good as the HP2 off. 2007 BMW R 1200 GS HP2 pictures, prices, information, and specifications.
