The placement of these is a large part of my set up- as I must ensure that the hamster can reach them but that they wont become filled with bedding or tip over. ... Once you know where everything is going to go, you can add your substrates! The bedding & substrates you provide your hamster is very important! It gives them a place to burrow and forage in. I like to add a variety of textures in different parts of the cage for my hamsters to enjoy.
To start off with, you need to figure out what cage youll be getting. HC does not have an official minimum, more so our minimum is do the best you can, so get the largest cage reasonably possible. It should be large enough that you can fit a suitable wheel (more on that later), a thick layer of substrate, a few different things for your hamster to hide and play with, along with enough space for your hamster to move.

The minimum bedding depth where a hamster could start to burrow is 6 inches, but ideally you should aim higher as they are natural burrowing creatures so 10 inches or more would be more beneficial. With deep bedding your hamster is more likely to make their burrows and make them nice and deep and comfortable.
