A complete ball python shed from first signs to completion spans 7-14 days. The process has two phases. Phase 1: Going Blue (Days 1-7). The first sign is eye color change. The normally clear spectacle turns a cloudy, blue-gray milky color.

If your ball python is having trouble shedding, do not try to soak it!! This is extremely stressful for ball pythons and many snakes have drowned because of well-intentioned owners who try to remove stuck shed via soaking.
However, when your ball python sheds, these dirty and damaged scales are jettisoned, and the fresh, new, brightly colored scales beneath become visible. This causes freshly shed ball pythons (and most other snakes) to look their best.
