Now that your dough is chilled, it's time to create your festive shapes. Here's how to make perfect Christmas tree cookies:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Using a sharp knife or a tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out your tree shapes. For a more rustic look, you can freehand the trees using a knife or a pizza cutter.
  • Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once your cookies are cooled and your royal icing is prepared, it's time to get creative. Here are some tips for decorating your Christmas tree sugar cookies:

  • Use a piping bag fitted with a small round tip to outline your trees. Let the outline set for a few minutes before filling in the center with a star tip or a spoon.
  • For a more rustic look, you can skip the outlining step and simply spread the icing onto the cookie using a spoon or a knife.
  • Add sprinkles, edible glitter, or other embellishments while the icing is still wet. You can also use a toothpick to create patterns or write names on the cookies.
  • Allow the icing to set completely before stacking or packaging your cookies. This can take several hours or even overnight.

I tend to have a “More is more” style of decorating sugar cookies with royal icing! Especially on Christmas cookies! This Christmas tree cookie is proof that I can show some restraint occasionally. I like it, but I sure don’t enjoy decorating cookies as much when I try to do simple or elegant styles. I prefer decorating bright, colorful and busy cookie designs that almost make your eyes hurt to look at it. 😂 Maybe one day, when I grow up, I’ll make more designs like this but for now…. I think I’ll stay a child, if only just for Christmas ❤️ What cookie decorating style or color theme do you prefer or wish to see this year Christmas? | Beka Claire | Facebook
