For car enthusiasts in New Zealand, upgrading wheels can dramatically enhance a vehicle’s appearance and performance. But a common question arises: do BMW wheels fit a VE Commodore? With unique body configurations and wheel bolting patterns, compatibility depends on precise measurements and design alignment. This guide explores whether BMW wheels can seamlessly integrate with the VE Commodore, covering key factors and practical advice.
The VE Commodore, produced from 1996 to 2002, features a distinct body style with specific wheel well geometry and suspension geometry. BMW wheels, particularly aftermarket or custom options, often differ in bolt pattern, offset, and overall width. Direct compatibility is rare due to differing mounting standards—BMW typically uses 5-bolt hubs with precise center bore specs, while VE Commodore wheels use 5-bolt but vary in bolt circle diameter and offset. Attempting a direct fit without verification risks misalignment, vibrations, and compromised safety.
Several critical factors determine whether BMW wheels will fit the VE Commodore:
1. **Bolt Pattern and Center Bore**: Confirm the wheel’s bolt circle diameter (usually 58mm or 60mm) and center bore match the vehicle’s hub. Even slight mismatches can prevent secure fastening.
2. **Offset and Wheel Width**: The VE Commodore’s suspension may require specific offset—typically between -45mm to -60mm. BMW wheels often have different offsets, affecting handling and tire wear. Wider wheels require checking both offset and diameter to avoid rubbing or clearance issues.
3. **Bolt Circle Diameter and Hub Diameter**: Precise alignment ensures bolts seat perfectly. Mismatches can cause vibrations or wheel wobble, especially at speed.
4. **Suspension Clearance**: The VE Commodore’s suspension geometry influences how far outward the wheel sits. Custom or oversized BMW wheels may encroach on fenders or suspension components, requiring modification or custom mounts.
Before purchasing, follow these steps to ensure BMW wheels fit your VE Commodore:
- Measure your current wheel: Record diameter, offset, and bolt pattern.
- Check wheel specifications against VE Commodore data from trusted sources or manufacturer guidelines.
- Use fitment software or consult a professional mechanic familiar with both brands.
- If modifying, consider custom hub sleeves or adapted mounts—never force-fit incompatible wheels.
- Always prioritize safety: verify torque specs and wheel balance post-installation to prevent long-term issues.
While BMW wheels are not universally compatible with the VE Commodore, thoughtful selection and precise verification can enable a successful upgrade. Focus on matching bolt pattern, center bore, and critical dimensions to ensure safety and performance. When in doubt, consult specialized automotive experts to guide your choice. Upgrading your wheels is more than a style choice—it’s a chance to elevate your Commodore’s presence, but only with informed fitment. Take your time, double-check specs, and invest in quality to enjoy both aesthetics and reliability.
VE Commodore Stud Size: 14mm (for memory) I do know anything before the VE had 12mm studs, so VE wheels are not recommended unless they are machined to fit. BMW and Holden are the only two afaik to have the 5/120 stud pattern. Falcons, Camrys, Magnas and Mercs had 5/114.3, and smaller cars with 5 studs like PT cruiser, VW golf etc.
have 5/100. Similar threads are Gen 1 commodore wheels same a vn-vz? and what wheels fit commies pre ve mighty vs ute Jul 2, 2025 The Pub Replies 7 Views 158 Jul 2, 2025. Yep, Gabe, they will fit.
Commodore (VB-VZ) wheels fit on e36/46 BMWs & vice-versa. But I wouldn't:tsk: EDIT: Oh, just noticed, they're VE wheels. They won't fit.
As far as I can find out, the 15 inch Commodore rims are the same stud pattern as some BMWs. Are / were any of those BMWs fitted with steel rims? I want to put steels on my project and the Commodore have a big positive offset. Just wondering what else I could use.
Thanks, Ken. well apparently the BMW wheels are 5x120. I dont know much bout wheels and all that so.
haha will they fit straight on? The 5x120 is the stud pattern and it IS the same as the VE Commodore. The only problem is the bore in the middle is too big in diameter and needs to be filled somehow one_and_only2004;2086118 said. I am going to be advertising a set of 4 x 17 inch wheels soon.
They suit Holden commodores VB to VZ. Does anyone know what other cars they will fit on? I think BMW has the same stud pattern. Talk hereWhat other rims/mags will fit on a Commodore VT without having to be machined? 30-06-2013, 10:27 PM I have looked on gumtree alot and ebay, but im thinking of just getting some rims or mags from the auto wreckers, right now i just have black stockies on the Holden Commodore Vt with hub caps, want an upgrade.
i dont want to have to machine them so im guessing any close models. thanks. Overview: MARS MP-37 4x19 inch JDM Matt Black Concave Stag Alloy Wheels Rims 5 x 120 for BMW & Commodore Certifications: All of MARS PERFORMANCE WHEELS are made in TAIWAN, JWL/VIA approved.

As I understand it, the offset is a lot less on pre-ve, so any wheel you get to fit will sit really inboard, needing spacers to fit properly.
Spacers have legality questions. Possibly something with the nuts needing to be changed as well. And the hub would potentially needs rings too.
Some say pre-ve hub is larger, while some say the profile needs changing when going ve to pre. Just wondering whats the go with bmw wheels, ive heard they fit on vt vx vu commodores? has any 1 got them on a commodore or know if they fit if so do all series bmw wheels fit?
