MR2 Handbrake / Parking Brake, Need to adjust your cables? Well then watch this! First part, releasing, second part is tightening.

Hi there! I'm working on my friend's MR2 mk3 (W-reg/2000). I've tightened up the handbrake cable for her as the car was previously rolling with the handbrake pulled up to the max when on any kind of slope. (Did the full whack - seats out, pump pedal with engine running to take up slack, etc. Was.

These calipers are very wide. Mr2 Spyder (rear) Made by Aisin Pistons: 1 x 45mm (2mm bigger than stock calipers, identical dimensions to 91 rears, can take up to a 20mm thick). Standard mount Will need to be clocked a bit if used with rotors under 320mm diameter as the holes will interfere when making adapter bracket Retains parking brake.

MR2 parking brakes tend to fail for 2 primary reasons: the cables stretching from wear or severe use, and the strut not actuating the brake fully. The first requires replacing the cables, and the second could either be the caliper itself, the strut that actuates the caliper, or the adjustment of the handbrake lever in that center console.

I once had a brake line burst on me and the emergency brakes saved me from a wreck. With these cars being 20 years old and having people work on the hydraulics, I like having a set of mechanical cables for emergencies. But still I think the handbrake on the spyder is really weak.

Hi, So my handbrake was always crappy and brakes were showing their age so got them all done. I got new disks and pads done all around, new handbrake cables and new rear driver caliper. Rear passenger caliper is new-ish but around 6 months old now. The handbrake sorta works now but still doesn't hold too well, especially on steep hills. Scared of it rolling off as its happened a few times.

Hi all, Really need your help! I have failed the NCT (Ireland equivalent of MOT) for handbrake not holding twice after two adjustments made by Toyota. I replaced the cables and calipers with Toyota, as well as the pads. After failing the second time I ran through the suggested adjustment.
