Spix macaw aviary
Velas Quite bizarre to see what probably is Pairi Daiza's most special species being housed in a rather bland enclousure. It does not appear to be bad for the birds themselves at least, but it could've been so much more interesting...
July 2018 @David Matos Mendes, I agree a very fitting aviary . Jurong BP had 0.2 Spix's Macaws , on a display loan from ACTP (Germany) and Al Wabra (Qatar) in 2017, as part of Jurong's participation in the Blue Macaws conservation project. When the project came to an end, I believe both females were sent to ACTP in 2021. 11 Oct 2025

The Spix's Macaws are still on display but will be leaving for ACTP in Germany soon. The pair at Jurong typically stay up high in their aviary , but they seemed to be interested in my camera when I visited and I was lucky enough to spend a few minutes with them up close.
The aviaries for Spix - and Lear's macaw vogelcommando Thanks for this one lintworm. With my attemps to make pictures of the Spix and Lear's macaws I forgot to take a photo of their enclosure. Now I have one !
Spix's and Lear's macaw aviaries, 2019
Spix's and Lear's macaw aviaries, 2019-10-04 Their presence right near the entrance and two gift shops has been discussed here on ZooChat before. Personally I think it is less then ideal and should have preferably been avoided. Also, the aviaries don't make viewing and photography easy.
Even there I believe the Spix's are not on display to the public, are kept in an offshow area in specially constructed aviaries with 24 hour secuirity, video monitoring etc.
Spix macaw
21/06/23 Can't believe there's still Zoos that house this species. Do these fellas still happen to be on display in this zoo? 27 May 2024 Category: Pairi Daiza Uploaded By: Dianamonkey Date: 21 Jun 2023 View Count: 509 Comment Count: 1
Some good news. A spix's macaw hatched at the Loro Parque Tenerife. It's a young of their older breeder pair after the male returned from Berlin (he was their on breeding loan). Excellent news.
