Guys, i am going to fit some wheels and i need to know how much material to mill out so they will fit on the e39 hub. Searching on this forum ive found a few different numbers for the e39 centre bore: 74mm; 74.1mm; 74.2mm Today measuring i got 74.5mm? Does anyone know what diameter i should mill the wheel centres to?
BMW E39 Wheel Hub Bore Size Conversion Kit $425.00 It's often rumored that BMW made a mistake when they designed the wheel bore size of the E39. All E39s use a hub centric bore of 74.10mm. All other BMW models prior, during, and since use a bore size of 72.56mm. This bore size difference limits the wheel selection for E39 owners.
ET 15-25 5 Series E39 M5 = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5.0mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 15-25 5 Series E60/61 = PCD 5x120 centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 15-32 5 Series E60 M5 (Saloon) = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 12-32 5 Series E61 M5 (Touring) = PCD 5x120, centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread.
The e39 5 series is the oddball of the rest of the 5/6/7/8/Z8 models with its 74.1mm center bore versus a 72.56mm for the rest. So trying to overcome a larger whee hub and a wheel offset range that is completely different you'd be better off looking for wheels with the correct wheel offset and hub size. For some reason BMW decided when designing the E39 to give the car a center bore of 74.1mm, a change from the usual 72.56mm. This limits the selection of OE wheels an E39 owner can use. We are happy to offer a solution.

I'm new to BMWs and this is my first e39 my wheel pattern is 5 Series E39 = PCD 5x120, centre bore 74.0mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 15-25. And I'm hoping someone either has a nice set of bmw 17 or 18 inch rims that would trade for a set of 05 530i bmw rims I bought that are practically new.
BMW's specs for an E39 wheel's runout are 0.3mm (0.012") radial and axial. For the radial spec, this means that the center of the bore must be positioned within 0.15mm (0.006") of the center of the tire mounting lip and the bore a virtually perfect circle for a firm fit on the hub. This isn't an unnecessarily tight spec.
