Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Club records contain presentations and papers presented by club members at regular fortnightly or monthly meetings, reflecting the club's principal mission to be a forum for its members to grow intellectually and to share their thoughts and research. The meeting presentations and papers deal with art and literature, national and world political and economic issues, science, philosophy, social issues, and related topics.

The records also include a fairly complete set of annual yearbooks and booklets, which contain yearly program listings, many detailing program title, presenter, date, and topical subject matter; officer listings; committee and membership directories; reports and expenses; articles of incorporation; and bylaws.

The records reflect the club's role in contributing to philanthropic, political, and social welfare work of other local organizations, including its membership (1894-1903) in the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The extensive set of minutes document the programmatic activities of the organization in addition to its business and governance processes.

The Club records also include a set of oral history interviews of New Century members, which were conducted by Macalester College anthropology students (2018-2019).
