Abstract: | Consists of thirty eight letters written by William Crosfield to his family in Liverpool, England, while on a tour of the U.S., which describe: the Atlantic Ocean voyage; New York City, Niagara Falls, and other points in New York state; Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Boston, and other cities in the East, South, and Midwest; the Falls of St. Anthony and St. Paul; a trip down the Mississippi River; and a brief visit to Cuba. The letters include comments on modes of travel, American life, slavery, the execution of John Brown, and Frederick E. Church's paintings. | |
