Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

The records document the MCCPE's efforts to influence the school board, teachers, and administrators; to lobby legislators; and to educate the public in order to improve public elementary and secondary education in Minneapolis. Major topics documented in the records include the desegregation of the public schools (1960s-1970s), school construction and renovation, school-related referenda, long range planning for city schools, and various lobbying activities carried on by the group.

The Committee files (5.5 cubic feet) contain printed matter, memoranda, and correspondence with school board officials, school administrators, state legislators and city politicians, the Minnesota Department of Education, and business and community leaders. Membership files consist largely of individual files on more than 300 committee members who served during the 1957-1984 period.
