Abstract:Correspondence, biographical materials, photographs, and the personnel file of Fitzharris, who served in the 8th Replacement Depot in North Africa and in support of the Fifth United States Army in Italy during World War II and with the Fifteenth Army Group in Austria after the war. Letters between Fitzharris and his wife Gertrude are included, as are letters from his parents. The collection also includes two scrapbooks (1938-1945) created by Gertrude containing greeting cards, clippings, photographs, programs and correspondence.

Expand/CollapseBIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Maurice Edward Fitzharris was born October 16, 1912, in Butte, Montana, son of Maurice and Julia (Lehan) Fitzharris. He was raised in Minnesota and commissioned in the Officers Reserve Corps through St. Thomas Military Academy, served in the 8th Replacement Depot in North Africa and later in Italy in support of the Fifth United States Army. Post-war service included assignment with the Fifteenth Army Group in Vienna and Salzburg prior to his discharge in November 1946. He returned to Minneapolis and worked as an accountant. He died February 16, 1994, in Minneapolis. He married Gertrude I. McBride on October 26, 1940.
