Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Speeches, minutes, news clippings, trial testimony transcripts, subject files, audio tapes, interviews, and other papers compiled by Fulton B. Klinkerfues relating to his tenure as president of the Minnesota Education Association (MEA) and as founder and director of the MEA's political action committee, IMPACE (Independent Minnesota Political Action Committee for Education).

The bulk of the papers consist of Klinkerfues's speeches, minutes and other records of IMPACE, and Klinkerfues's 1977 testimony in a trial (Knight v. Minnesota Community College Faculty Association, et al.) over the legality of IMPACE. Also included are correspondence, press releases, tape-recorded interviews, and other materials concerning an illegal teachers' strike in Florida (1968) at which Klinkerfues, then president of the MEA, was a speaker and supporter. These and other papers were compiled by Klinkerfues to represent what he believed to be watershed years in the history of the Minnesota Education Association. Many of the files include a page of background information written by Klinkerfues to explain the significance of the material.
